New 2026 Power Bank Rules for Air Travel
Power banks are receiving new restrictions for air travel due to concerns about lithium battery thermal runaway and fire risks. ICAO introduced these changes on March 27, 2026, and they are reflected in the 2026 IATA guidance.


Lithium-Ion Battery State of Charge: What Shippers Need to Know
As of January 1, 2025, the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), 66th Edition, recommend that lithium-ion batteries shipped by air—whether packed with equipment (UN 3481) or contained in equipment—be offered for transport with a state of charge (SoC) not exceeding 30% of their rated capacity.


IATA CBTA Training: Building Competency in Dangerous Goods Handling
According to the IATA Cargo Agent’s Handbook, IATA Members involved in the handling and transportation of dangerous goods—from shippers and freight forwarders to operators—are required to complete the applicable DGR training through an accredited IATA CBTA Centre.
